Williams CNC Art
Meet the Maker
Welcome to Williams CNC Art!
Hi, I’m Mike. After five years of selling on Etsy, I decided it was time to step out on my own. Crafting and creating new designs has always been my passion, and over the years, I’ve cut hundreds of different pieces for myself, friends, and family. Now, I’m excited to share my work with a wider audience. Each design is crafted with precision and care, and I’m always working on fresh ideas to bring unique creations to life. Thank you for joining me on this journey—I can’t wait for you to explore my art!
How it’s Made
This custom-engraved axe involves a combination of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining and traditional woodworking techniques. Here’s a breakdown of how it might be made:
1. Axe Selection and Preparation
A high-quality axe is selected with a sturdy wooden handle and metal head suitable for engraving. The wood is sanded to ensure a smooth, clean surface for the engraving process.
2. Design Creation
Using specialized design software, intricate patterns are crafted for both the handle and the head. The handle design has a tribal or Nordic style, which requires careful attention to symmetry and detail.
The design for the axe head often features a bold image, such as an animal, combined with text (like “Williams CNC Art Custom Engraving”).
3. CNC Engraving Process
The finalized design file is loaded into a CNC machine, which uses precise laser or rotary tools to engrave the patterns onto the axe. For wooden handles, the CNC router or laser cutter carefully etches the intricate designs.
For the metal head, a laser engraver or specialized CNC milling tool may be used, as it can carve into tougher materials with high accuracy.
4. Finishing the Handle
After engraving, the handle may be treated with oil, stain, or varnish to enhance the wood’s grain and protect it from wear. This process also darkens the engraved areas, making the design stand out even more.
Some artisans might add extra shading or burnt effects to enhance the design’s depth.
The result is a unique, custom-made axe that combines modern CNC precision with traditional woodworking aesthetics, making it both functional and visually striking. This type of craftsmanship is ideal for creating custom gifts, collectors' items, or decorative pieces with personal and cultural significance.
