Meet the Maker
Welcome to Williams CNC Art!
Hi, I’m Mike. After five years of selling on Etsy, I decided it was time to step out on my own. Crafting and creating new designs has always been my passion, and over the years, I’ve cut hundreds of different pieces for myself, friends, and family. Now, I’m excited to share my work with a wider audience. Each design is crafted with precision and care, and I’m always working on fresh ideas to bring unique creations to life. Thank you for joining me on this journey—I can’t wait for you to explore my art!
How it’s Made
The box is an intricately designed wooden storage box with engraved artwork. Here's how such a box is made:
Step 1: Selecting the Wood
Choose a high-quality hardwood or softwood, such as pine or oak, for durability and an attractive finish. The wood should be free of knots and imperfections to allow for smooth engraving.
Step 2: Cutting and Assembling the Box
The wood is cut into precise pieces for the base, sides, and lid. The corners can be joined using dovetail joints or glued for a seamless look. Brass or metal brackets are added to reinforce the corners.
Once the main structure is assembled, a hinge and clasp mechanism is installed to create a functional lid.
Step 3: Designing the Engraving
The detailed artwork seen on the box is likely designed digitally using graphic software. The design could include intricate patterns, game characters, or thematic imagery as seen on this box.
Step 4: Laser Engraving
A laser engraving machine is used to etch the design onto the surface of the wood. This process involves precision control to ensure that the engraving is detailed and consistent.
The laser burns away the surface layer of the wood, leaving behind a rich, dark pattern that contrasts with the natural wood color.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
After engraving, the box is sanded to remove any rough edges and achieve a smooth finish.
The box is then stained or varnished to enhance the wood’s natural grain and protect it from wear. The stain also helps the engraved patterns stand out more clearly.
Optional: Antiquing techniques or additional metal fittings (like corner guards and clasps) can be added to give it a vintage look.
Step 6: Final Assembly and Inspection
Once the finish is dry, the box is assembled and inspected to ensure all parts fit together perfectly and that the design looks as intended.
